Police are investigating after a woman was assaulted in her Hamilton home when she confronted two intruders last night.
The incident happened about 9pm on Saturday in the suburb of Fairfield, when the woman confronted two men attempting to enter her Clarkin Rd address.
Following the assault, the offenders fled the property towards River Rd, leaving the woman with injuries requiring hospitalisation, police said.
Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Neilson called the crime "appalling" and urged anyone with information to come forward.
"Nobody should be unsafe in their own home and the victim is understandably shaken. We’re providing wrap around support for her," he said.
"If you know something about this abhorrent crime, please come forward as soon as possible. Even the smallest detail could be crucial."
Reassurance patrols would be stepped up across the neighbourhood as the investigation continues, he added.
Police also asked residents with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around Clarkin Rd to check recordings from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on Saturday for anything unusual.
Anyone with relevant information was urged to contact police on 105.
