Recall issued for imported Milo snack bars over choking risk

Nestlé Milo Dipped Snack Bars (160g)

A recall has been issued for specific batches of imported Nestlé Milo Dipped Snack Bars after concerns the product may contain pieces of rubber that could pose a choking risk.

Jenny Bishop, acting New Zealand Food Safety deputy director-general, said the recall followed reports that the bars could contain foreign matter.

The affected products were batch numbers 5316, 5317, and 5318 TD15 and had a best-before date of August 2026.

"The concern with this product is that rubber pieces could cause choking," Bishop said.

"If you have any of these, don't eat it. You can return it to the place of purchase for a refund. If that’s not possible, throw it out."

Bishop said the affected products were sold at supermarkets and retail stores nationwide and had been removed from store shelves. They had not been re-exported.

There had been no reports of injury linked to the product so far, according to New Zealand Food Safety.

"New Zealand Food Safety will work with Nestlé to understand how this happened and prevent its recurrence," Bishop said.

The bars were manufactured in Australia and were also subject to recall there.
