The call made by an Australian teenager to alert emergency services after he and his family were swept kilometres out to sea south of Perth has been released by police.

Tributes pour in for beloved Dawson's Creek star James Van der Beek

Tributes have poured in from family, friends and fans following the death of US actor James Van der Beek today at age 48.

The Dawson's Creek star revealed in November 2024 that he had been battling stage three colorectal cancer since 2023, saying he had been privately dealing with the illness while continuing to work and support his family.

Van der Beek was survived by his wife, Kimberly, and their six children together. The family broke the news in a post to Instagram today.

Lawyer A, who has name suppression, began their closing submissions quoting Nelson Mandela, "A nation should not be judged by how it treats its highest citizens, but its lowest ones".

A Northland wildlife photographer has captured striking drone footage of more than 30 bronze whaler sharks swimming along the Mangawhai bar.

Photographer Andy Bruce said he noticed the sharks swimming in shallow waters alongside a large school of kahawai early Tuesday morning.
