A man has been arrested after a person was found critically injured in an assault in central Christchurch on Monday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to a "grievous assault" on Fitzgerald Ave around 12.20pm on February 9.
A man was found in critical condition with "injuries consistent with being stabbed", Detective Sergeant Ben Rolton said today.
He remained in hospital in a stable condition.
A scene guard was placed at the property overnight while officers carried out their investigation.
A 40-year-old man was due to appear in the Christchurch District Court today charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
No one else was being sought in relation to the assault, Rolton said.
"Police thank the public for their assistance and patience as investigators carried out their enquiries."
