Her first jump this morning was a miss, failing to hold the landing on a switch backside 1440, ramping up the pressure on her second attempt.

The second was clean, a backside triple cork 1440, which scored a huge 88.75.

Eighth heading into round three, she again came up strong when it counted, moving into first place with a switch backside 1260 which earned her 83.50.

It left a nervous wait for the 24-year-old with half the field still to make their third jump. She held that spot until penultimate rider Kokomo Murase of Japan moved past her into the gold medal spot.

South Korea's Seungeun Yu failed to land the final jump, leaving Sadowski-Synnott with silver.

"That was amazing and I’ve never been so nervous for a competition before. It’s scary tricks and putting it down when it matters is really hard," she told Sky Sport.

"I’m just grateful that I was able to put it down and grateful for having my team here supporting me, having my family here supporting me. This just means so much to me."

Big air consists of one single jump off a huge ramp, where the rider varies spins, flips and holds of the board. The Livigno ramp, built on a scaffolding, peaks at over 40 meters, sending the riders soaring down the slope that was lit by floodlights for the nighttime event.

In 2022, Sadowski-Synnott was the first Kiwi to win Winter Olympics gold, taking first place in slopestyle.
