Person in hospital after reported fall from Christchurch's Tūranga library

A fire crew lifts a person from a ledge on Tūranga library.

A person was taken to hospital in a critical condition after reportedly falling from the roof of Christchurch's Tūranga library this morning.

Emergency services were called to the Cathedral Square library at around 11am.

An ambulance, two ladder fire trucks, and a rescue truck arrived at the scene. Crews used rescue gear to remove the person.

Footage from the scene showed a Fire and Emergency crew lifting a person from one of the building's ledges.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said one patient was assessed at the scene and taken to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition.

In a Facebook post, Christchurch City Libraries said the library would be closed for the rest of the day.

"We apologise for the inconvenience."
