New World cakes, muffins recalled over possible presence of metal

A New World supermarket in Christchurch has issued a recall for a range of baked goods due to the possible presence of metal.

The affected products were sold at New World on 346 Halswell Rd in Halswell.

It included:

  • Red Velvet Cupcakes (six-pack)
  • Carrot Muffins (six-pack)
  • Carrot and Cream Cheese Icing Cakes of various sizes

The affected goods included best before dates of 10.02.2026, 11.02.2026, 12.02.2026, and 13.02.2026.

The recall did not affect any other products made in-store at New World Halswell.

"Affected products should not be consumed," the Ministry for Primary Industries said on its website.

"There have been no reports of associated injury but if you have consumed any of these products and have any concerns about your health, seek medical advice."

Anyone who bought the affected products was advised to return them to New World Halswell for a full refund.
