Andrew may have shared confidential trade info with Epstein, emails suggest

Buckingham Palace has initiated a formal process to strip Prince Andrew of his 'prince' title.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor may have shared confidential information from his work as a UK trade envoy to Jeffery Epstein, newly released files from the US Justice Department appear to show.

Emails included in the latest tranche of files connected to the disgraced financier show the former Duke of York may have passed on information about potential investment opportunities in 2010 and 2011, the BBC reports.

The emails suggest that Andrew shared reports from overseas trips to Singapore, Hong Kong, China and Vietnam - visits carried out under his official capacity as a trade envoy.

Under government guidance, envoys are required to maintain confidentiality over sensitive, commercial, or political information obtained during their visits.

According to the documents, Andrew emailed Epstein on October 7, 2010, with details of official upcoming trips.

After returning, he allegedly forwarded visit reports prepared by his then special assistant, Amit Patel, to Epstein on November 30, less than five minutes after receiving them himself.

In another email sent on Christmas Eve 2010, Andrew reportedly shared with Epstein a confidential briefing on investment opportunities linked to the reconstruction of Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

The files also included a February 2011 email in which Andrew appeared to suggest Epstein might invest in a private equity firm he had visited days earlier.

At the time, Epstein had already been convicted of sex offences.

Then business secretary Sir Vince Cable told BBC he was "unaware" of the former prince sharing information about investment opportunities.

"This is the first I've heard of it," he said.

The former prince has faced sustained scrutiny over his association with Epstein and has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

During a 2019 interview with BBC Newsnight, Andrew said he last met with Epstein in New York in December 2010 and formally cut ties with him.

Allegations against Andrew resurfaced last year when UK media reported he and Epstein had continued to communicate longer than the former prince had alleged. In October 2025, he was formally stripped of his royal titles.

Last week, Andrew moved out of the Royal Lodge in Windsor and relocated to the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, after growing calls for him to tell investigators what he knows about Epstein and his network of rich, powerful friends.

Being named in the Epstein-related court files does not in itself imply wrongdoing and the documents have not resulted in new criminal charges.
