A person has died after a boat capsized in Thames just before noon today.
Emergency services received reports of a capsized vessel and two people in the water off Tararu Beach around 11.45am
Coastguard Thames volunteers responded with a rescue vessel and found that both people had made it to shore.
In a statement, a police spokesperson told 1News the pair had been pulled from the water by a member of the public's boat and brought to shore "where one person was unresponsive".
Coastguard Thames said the crew "assisted with CPR on one person and deployed a defibrillator until emergency services arrived".
Despite medical attention, a person died at the scene, a police spokesperson said.
The Coastguard said it recovered the capsized vessel after emergency services had arrived to take over patient care.
"Our thoughts are with the family and friends affected by this tragic incident."
The death would be referred to the coroner.
