Twelve-year-old falls, injured after school bus door opens in Auckland

A 12-year-old boy was injured after falling out of an Auckland school bus just after 3.30pm today.

In a statement to 1News, Auckland Transport service operations manager Duncan McGrory confirmed the boy fell through an emergency exit door at the back of the bus.

"The bus was driving slowly along Laingholm Drive at the time and, after the incident occurred, the bus driver pulled over, checked on the student, and radioed the bus depot for assistance," said McGrory.

He said the student was travelling from Glen Eden Intermediate to Laingholm.

"Auckland Transport and our bus contractor are investigating this incident and working to getting to the bottom of what happened as soon as possible."

In a statement to 1News, police said: "The young person suffered moderate injuries and was transported to hospital in a stable condition."

Police inquiries into what caused the incident were ongoing.
