A second Australian has died following an incident during the ski season in Japan.
Melbourne man Michael Hurst was skiing with a group off-course between Niseko Moiwa Ski Resort and Niseko Annupuri International Ski Resort in Hokkaido when he disappeared on Monday afternoon.
The 27-year-old was later found unconscious by a group of skiers, who attempted CPR.
According to local reports, he had disappeared in an avalanche.
Police said the man had no visible injuries.
Hurst later died in hospital.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed to Channel 7 it was providing consular assistance to Hurst's family.
"The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian who died in Japan," a spokesperson said.
"We send our deepest condolences to the family at this difficult time."
Hurst's death came just days after an Australian woman died in a ski lift accident at a resort in Tokyo.
Snowboarder Ella Day Brooke, 22, sustained critical injuries after an unfastened belt buckle from her backpack became stuck in a lift chair at the Tsugaike Mountain Resort in Otari near Nagano on Friday.
Brooke was dragged along the snow while being suspended in mid-air.
The woman died of her injuries in hospital.
