Wellington Mayor Andrew Little and Wellington Water chief executive Pat Dougherty have spoken about a major failure at a wastewater plant on the capital's south coast earlier today.
Wellington's Moa Point Wastewater Treatment Plant was shut down and fully evacuated after a major equipment failure around 1am.
The equipment failure caused multiple floors of the site to flood and saw raw sewage discharging into the sea off the city's south coast. The discharge is still occurring.
Little and Dougherty spoke from about 1.30pm.
