A man has been charged with the murder of a woman in Clutha more than a week ago.
A homicide investigation was launched after the death of a woman in the Otago settlement of Crichton on the evening of Friday, January 23.
Police were called to Adams Flat Rd at around 6.10pm.
A man was taken to hospital in a critical condition following the incident and a scene guard was put in place at the address while a scene examination was carried out.
Hato Hone St John said it attended with a first response vehicle, a helicopter and an operations manager, but referred all further inquiries to police.
"One patient was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital in a critical condition," a St John spokesperson said.
Smale said there was not believed to be any risk to public safety.
"The Crichton community can expect to see an increased police presence in the area while these enquiries are carried out."
A man was charged today following a bedside hearing, Detective Senior Sergeant Nik Leigh said.
"We understand this is a distressing event for the small community.
"Police would like to reassure residents that officers are not searching for any other people in relation to the matter."
