A child has died following a collision with a car in rural Canterbury this afternoon.
Police were called to the scene on Leeston Rd in Springston around 3.30pm.
"Police can confirm that the pedestrian was a child, who, despite best efforts of emergency services, sadly died at the scene," police said.
Leeston Rd remained closed between Goulds and Bethels roads while the serious crash unit carried out a scene examination.
Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash were ongoing.
