Woman arrested after allegedly chasing bus and assaulting driver

A woman who allegedly chased after a bus, forced her way aboard, then assaulted the driver, was arrested in Auckland last night.

Officers were called to a report of a bus driver being assaulted on Queen Street in the central city after 9.40pm.

Area Commander Inspector Grae Anderson said the incident unfolded after the driver passed a woman who appeared to be "acting unusually".

“This woman was refused entry but has managed to chase the bus and force her way aboard.”

Once on the bus, the woman allegedly attacked the driver before fleeing the scene.

Police were called, and an ambulance arrived to assess the victim.

On arrival, officers noticed a woman matching the alleged offender's description standing by Vulcan Lane.

“On seeing our staff, she ran off but was quickly chased down and arrested,” Anderson said.

The 20-year-old woman was charged with injuring with intent to injure and would appear in the Auckland District Court today.

“Being subjected to violence in your workplace is unacceptable, and we will continue to hold offenders accountable,” Anderson said.
