Fog is causing disruption at Wellington Airport, with nearly 50 flights affected on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the airport said 48 flights had been cancelled.
According to the airport's website, on Tuesday afternoon flights leaving for Christchurch, Napier and Dunedin were among those cancelled, along with flights arriving from Christchurch, Brisbane and Hamilton.
An RNZ reporter at the airport said a line of about 30 people were queuing at the Air New Zealand ticket sales and assistance desk at Wellington Airport on Tuesday afternoon.
Passengers were advised to check directly with their airlines for the latest information on their travel plans.
Nicola told RNZ she had been in Wellington for work and was headed home to Hamilton.
She said her flight was at 1.30pm and at first believed it had been bumped to 4.30pm.
After talking to a friend, she realised her new flight home was actually at 4.30pm tomorrow.
"I'm either checking into a hotel or paying another $500 to see if someone else will take me home."
Nicola said it would be fine if she was on her own, but she wanted to get back to her kids.
Rhys told RNZ he was booked on a 4pm flight to Nelson which had been cancelled and redirected through Auckland on Thursday.
He was able to get a Jetstar flight through to Christchurch on Wednesday in time for some work meetings.
"Business continues as normal."
Air NZ said it appreciated travel disruptions could be frustrating and thanked customers for their patience and understanding.
Jetstar said there was currently no disruption to its services.
MetService meteorologist Lewis Ferris said there were some quite low clouds currently hanging over the airport.
"It does look like it is being dragged around the southern corner of the North Island, just over that Wellington Airport runway."
He said current warm, humid air had created good conditions for low cloud.
"But as we move overnight, that warm air is shifted away to the east," he said.
"We will still hold on to those southerlies overnight into tomorrow, but we should see that cloud base coming up overnight."
