A 46-year-old man was taken to hospital in critical condition overnight, after he was assaulted outside a Napier nightclub early this morning.
Police were called to West Quay, Ahuriri around 1am where the man was found unresponsive on the ground.
In a call for information on the incident, Detective Sergeant Ryan Kemsley said police had arrested but not charged a 21-year-old man who was assisting with the investigation.
Hato Hone St John confirmed they also attended the incident in West Quay, Ahuriri,
"Two ambulances and one rapid response unit attended. One patient, in critical condition, was transported to Hawke's Bay Hospital," a spokesperson for the organisation said.
Police have asked anyone who may have witnessed or have information regarding to the incident, including CCTV or video footage, to contact them on 105 either online or over the phone using reference number 260201/1791.
