Anthony Joshua posts emotional video after fatal Nigeria car crash

Anthony Joshua has posted an emotional video to social media regarding the fatal car crash he was in while visiting Nigeria last year.

In the video, Joshua thanked his fans for support after the incident – where two of his close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele, were killed.

The 36-year-old British heavyweight had suffered minor injuries after the incident on December 29 where the vehicle he was in with his friends collided with a stationary truck on a road near Lagos.

Both Ghami and Ayodele were pronounced dead at the scene. Joshua was pictured by bystanders being helped out of the wreckage.

In the six-minute video, Joshua thanked supporters who were “showing so much love, support through that tragic, traumatic time”.

“One day my time will come and I’m not scared either at all.

“It’s actually comforting knowing I got two brothers on the other side. I’ve lost people before, but I don’t think I’ve lost people like that. My left and my right.”

Ayodele was Joshua’s personal trainer, while Ghami was his coach for strength and conditioning.

“We became business partners,” Joshua said. “We became hustlers. We became lieutenants. We became generals. We became everything.”

Sonny Bill Williams: 'God bless you, big man'

“Not only did their parents, their uncles, their cousins, their friends and myself lose two great men, we lost people that we dearly care about and have been major players in all our lives.

“It’s tough. It’s really tough.”

The chauffeur who was driving the vehicle at the time, 46-year-old Adeniyi Kayode, was arraigned in Nigera last week, charged with four offences including causing death by dangerous driving.

Joshua said he would help the families of both victims “achieve their goals” and “fulfil their dreams”.

In the comments on the video, Kiwi boxer and former rugby player Sonny Bill Williams posted: “You are a product of your environment and as you said you had giants on both sides protecting you. What a guy. God bless you and the families big man.”

Recently, Joshua also posted a video to Snapchat of his return to the gym with the caption: “mental strength therapy”.

Joshua has not confirmed whether he would fight again. According to the BBC, his promoter, Eddie Hearn, said he would return to boxing "when the time is right".
