Strong three years for KiwiSaver members – new player in top spot

Actuarial firm MJW has released its latest investment survey for the December quarter, which showed most funds, both within KiwiSaver and outside the scheme, had a small but positive return in the three months and solid performance over a longer period.
'Cockroaches, sewage': Landlords fined for 34 breaches at properties
A landlord and a company have been fined for 34 separate breaches in the Residential Tenancies Act across Auckland and Rotorua.
Quan (Marshall) Shu and ARent1 Limited have been ordered to jointly pay $61,140.44 for the breaches, after investigators found damaged gutters, excessive rubbish, no ground moisture barrier, and either not working or not installed smoke alarms and extractor fans.
Recovery work temporarily halted at Mt Maunganui slip site
Recovery work at the site of last week's devastating landslide at Mt Maunganui has been temporarily suspended due to concerns about land movement.
Police said technology installed to monitor any movement of the land was triggered just after 10.30am, suspending all work.

An Otago family has claimed the second Powerball jackpot of 2026 – describing their $5.3 million win as "absolutely unreal".
The prize was made up of $5 million from Powerball First Divison and $333,333 from Lotto First Division.
