After severe weather lashed the North Island, settled weather is forecast for much of New Zealand in the coming days as students start their new school year.
Most of the North Island will be able to enjoy clear skies and warm temperatures, MetService said, with daytime temperatures expected to reach the mid to high 20s. However, some areas in the eastern North Island expected to reach the low 30s on Thursday and Monday afternoon.
MetService meteorologist Samkelo Magwala said "plenty of sunshine" was expected, "providing a welcome relief for the North Island after recent severe weather events".
"Whether the first week of school has already got your feet itching, or it’s your last taste of freedom, this weekend is the perfect time to get out and about."
However, the odd shower would be on the cards for southern and eastern parts of the country.
By early next week however, most of the country would be feeling the chill as wet and windy conditions bear down on Aotearoa.
Western parts of the South Island would likely to see the wettest conditions, while things could be gusty over the lower and eastern South Island and lower North Island, MetService said.
"With most people returning to normal routines on Monday, make sure to check the forecast before setting off as rain may reduce visibility and potentially lead to increased traffic during peak hours," Magwala said.
