Ankle surgery brings Steven Adams' NBA season to an early end

Steven Adams recovers in hospital after ankle surgery.

New Zealander Steven Adams is out for the rest of the NBA season after having surgery on his left ankle.

The Rockets centre posted a message on his Instagram account this morning revealing the news, saying: "All went well. Grateful for all your thoughts and prayers."

Adams injured his ankle in a January 18 win over New Orleans, landing awkwardly after contesting a Zion Williamson shot attempt.

He was diagnosed last week with a Grade 3 sprain and was ruled out indefinitely.

The 32-year-old has had run of bad luck with injury.

He missed part of the 2022/23 season and all of ’23/24 due to a knee injury.

He appeared to be back in form this season, having logged 22.8 minutes per game in his 32 outings (11 starts) this season.

In April last year he was narrowly beaten by Stephen Curry for the NBA's Teammate of the Year Award.
