Police are seeking information via 111 after a kayak equipped with a torch was found floating unoccupied near Auckland's Beachlands this morning.
A member of the public alerted police that an unoccupied blue and green kayak could be seen floating in the water in the Tāmaki Strait between Omana Beach and Beachlands shortly before 7.30am.
"On the kayak is a paddle, chilly bin and a torch mounted on the front indicating that it was possibly used in the dark," a police spokesperson said.
"Police are hopeful the occupant of the kayak made it to shore safely but would like to hear from anyone who recognises it."
Anyone with information was urged to contact police via 111.
