Magnitude 4.5 earthquake hits off the coast of Levin

A 4.5 magnitude earthquake has hit 45km north-west of Levin this afternoon.

GeoNet said the quake hit at 1.53pm with a depth of 5km.

By 2.11pm, more than 5000 people had reported feeling shaking across the Manawatū-Whanganui, Wellington, and Marlborough regions.

Shaking was mostly described by over 3000 users as weak.

About 1647 felt a light amount of shaking, and 113 reported they felt a moderate amount.
