Investigation launched after dog attack in Auckland injures two people

Police and St John at the scene of the incident with two dogs on Monday.

An investigation has been launched into a dog attack in Papatoetoe, Auckland Council says.

The council's animal management officers attended the scene on Caspar Rd last night where two victims had been bitten after intervening in a dog fight.

One dog was seized by animal management after it was relinquished by its owner.

"Investigations are ongoing," an Auckland Council spokesperson said.

Hato Hone St John told 1News it was notified of the incident at 7.42pm, and responded with one ambulance.

It assessed two patients at the scene, who were then taken to Middlemore Hospital in moderate condition.

Auckland Council said people should be aware of the potential risks with dogs.

"This attack is an important reminder that any dog can bite, even when it is known by the victim. Dog attacks can be reported to the council on 0800 462 685."
