A man has been filmed dumping four kittens into an Adelaide library chute at night.

CCTV footage taken from the incident shows a man in a navy vest placing the kittens in the Greenacres Library chute at approximately 10.25pm on Saturday, January 10.

Australian news outlet 9News reported the kittens had remained in the chute until a staff member found them on the following Monday.

They were then taken to the local Animal Welfare League to be looked over, and have since been rehomed to foster families.

A spokesperson for Port Adelaide Enfield Council was shocked the animals were abandoned.

“Placing animals in places like library return chutes is dangerous and poses significant risks as they may be harmed from heavy books being dropped in the chute,” it said.

“The matter was referred to the RSPCA for investigation, with CCTV footage supplied.”

9News said it was the third time kittens had been dumped in the same chute.

In South Australia, the RSPCA prosecutes animal cruelty offences.

The RSPCA asked the local community for help in identifying the man, and urged anyone to contact its cruelty line if they had information.
