What you need to know:
- Four red-level heavy rain warnings have been issued for areas of the North Island: Northland, the Coromandel Peninsula, the Bay of Plenty including Rotorua, and Gisborne from Tolaga Bay northwards.
- Tasman west of Mapua, Auckland and Great Barrier Island, Gisborne south of Tolaga Bay and Hawke’s Bay were under an orange-level heavy rain warning.
- A precautionary state of emergency has been declared for Whangārei District for an initial period of seven days.
- NZ Civil Defence is urging anyone in the area to be prepared, including having an evacuation plan.
