Learner driver's Audi seized after speeding at 226km/h in Victoria

A learner driver will be charged after allegedly speeding at nearly 230km/h on a highway in Victoria on Monday morning.

Nunawading Highway Patrol officers were carrying out speed checks on the Monash Freeway in Mulgrave when an Audi was allegedly detected travelling at 226km/h in a 100km/h zone around 3am.

The driver, an L-plater, was stopped near Jacksons Rd and spoken to by police.

He was accompanied by an adult passenger, as required by law, police said. However, the woman was allegedly a disqualified driver.

The 23-year-old Narre Warren man is expected to be charged with being an unaccompanied learner and speeding offences.

The vehicle was impounded for 30 days at a cost of AU$1016 (NZ$1175).
