EB Games details shutdown as more than 20 stores close this week

The retailer announced it would be closing all 38 of its New Zealand stores by the month's end, marking game over for more than two decades of trading locally.

EB Games has confirmed how its New Zealand shutdown will roll out, with more than 20 stores to close permanently on Thursday and all remaining locations set to cease trading by January 31.

The retailer announced it would be closing all 38 of its New Zealand stores by the month's end, marking game over for more than two decades of trading locally. Its distribution centre will also close.

The company has also stopped taking new online orders "due to unprecedented demand", telling customers that existing orders will be shipped "in the coming weeks".

Massive queues formed in store and online last week when the chain's long-anticipated clearance sale launched at 1pm on Thursday, offering 50% off everything, including retro items priced as low as $3.
