Springboks coach mocks All Blacks speculation with AI video of Tony Brown

Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus has dismissed rumours linking Tony Brown to the vacant All Blacks coaching job, releasing an AI‑generated clip parodying the speculation.

Brown, currently the attack coach for the world champion Springboks, has been widely floated as a contender to replace Scott Robertson, who was sacked on Thursday after two seasons in charge.

Widely circulating rumours had Brown reuniting with long-time coaching partner Jamie Joseph to lead the side. The pair coached the Highlanders to the Super Rugby championship in 2015.

Erasmus appeared to pour cold water on the speculation overnight, posting a doctored video to social media that overlays Brown’s face and voice onto a scene from 2013 film The Wolf of Wall Street.

In the clip, Leonardo DiCaprio’s character shouts, "I’m not f***ing leaving", a line Erasmus appeared to apply to Brown.

“Today is a great day!! Sleep Lekka,” Erasmus tweeted.

Brown had been a key figure in South Africa’s recent dominance, including their record win over the All Blacks in Wellington last year. He was contracted through to the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Other names linked to the role were Joe Schmidt and Dave Rennie, though Schmidt was contracted to coach the Wallabies until July.
