Slips have been reported in parts of Northland, with multiple communities reportedly cut off by "intense flooding", according to local authorities.
MetService expects 40 to 60mm of rain to fall in eastern and central parts of the region between 6am and noon today, on top of what has already fallen, with peak rates of 15 to 25mm an hour and isolated downpours of up to 40mm.

The areas of Ngunguru, Helena Bay, Oakura, Punaruku and Whangaruru have been cut off by flooding, a Whangarei District Council spokesperson said.
"Please do not attempt to travel in or out of these areas until rain and flooding clears."
Police said motorists are advised to avoid travel due to flooding and slips between Whangaruru and Helena Bay.
"Police have received multiple calls this morning reports of intense flooding and slips in the Whangaruru, Oakua, and Helena Bay areas, especially on Russel Rd.
"Thankfully, at this stage there are no reported injuries. Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and delay travel where possible."
High tide around 8.30am may worsen conditions, according to the council.
"Whananaki Civil Defence will open the fire station for anyone who needs support."
Northpower was also reporting power outages for Helena Bay, Oakura, Punaruku and the Whangaruru Peninsula.
MetService said there's a low chance of the Northland warning being upgraded to red.
Heavy rain watch for Auckland
A yellow watch is in place for Auckland and the Coromandel Peninsula until 1pm, with periods of heavy rain forecast that may approach warning criteria, mainly in the north.
There was a moderate chance the watch would be upgraded to a warning.
A strong and humid southeast flow is bringing the wet weather to the region.
MetService said streams and rivers may rise rapidly, with surface flooding, slips and difficult driving conditions possible.
The forecaster is due to provide its next update at 10am.
