A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle in Northland's Haruru overnight, with emergency services unable to save them, authorities say.

The crash happened around 12.10am on Puketona Rd near the Garden Court intersection.

"Despite emergency services' best efforts, the pedestrian died at the scene," police said.

The road was closed between Haruru Falls Rd and Te Karuwha Pde while police's serious crash unit conducted a scene examination, and has since reopened.

"Inquiries into the circumstances of the death are ongoing," police said.

Separately, motorists across Northland are being urged to delay travel due to intense flooding and slips affecting areas between Whangaruru and Helena Bay.

Police received multiple reports this morning of flooding and slips in Whangaruru, Oakua, and Helena Bay, with Russell Road particularly affected.

There have been no reported injuries from the flooding, according to police.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and avoid travel where possible.
