Two people have been seriously injured after a vehicle left the road and crashed in Whakatāne this afternoon.
Police said they were called to the scene on Tahuna Rd, between Secombe and Jackson roads, in Te Teko around 3.40pm.
Two people were injured in the incident.
Hato Hone St John said it was alerted to the crash at 3.41pm and responded with an ambulance, one rapid response unit, one operations manager and a helicopter.
"Our ambulance team have treated one patient in a critical condition. They are currently being airlifted to Waikato Hospital."

Tahuna Rd is closed while emergency services work at the scene.
The serious crash unit will be attending.
Motorists have been advised to take alternative routes.
