A planned All Blacks camp scheduled to take place in Auckland this week has been cancelled as the fallout from Scott Robertson's dismissal continues, 1News understands.
All Blacks players had been arriving in Auckland for Super Rugby promotional work and were also due to take part in the two-day camp, which included fitness testing and meetings.
But the camp was called off as New Zealand Rugby (NZR) deals with the sudden change in leadership.
NZR confirmed on Thursday that head coach Scott Robertson had been removed following a scathing end-of-season review.
Chairman David Kirk said discussions were held with Robertson before the decision was made to replace him, telling media: "Things were not on track. We were not seeing the trajectory we wanted."
Robertson, who had been in charge for just two years of his four‑year deal, said he was "gutted" by the outcome and described coaching the All Blacks as the "honour of a lifetime".
He left the role with 20 wins from 27 Tests, a 74% success rate, having taken over from Ian Foster after the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
World media reacted with shock, calling the decision everything from “stunning” to a sign of a “superpower in decline”, reflecting the magnitude of the move on the global stage.
NZR has already begun the process of recruiting a new head coach, with Highlanders coach Jamie Joseph emerging as an early frontrunner.
