Police say three people shot at a Waitārere Beach property are still "fighting for their lives" in hospital.
Emergency services responded to a 111 call to the property in the Horowhenua settlement shortly before 1am on Wednesday.
A woman, 46, and two males aged 21 and 17 were critically injured during the incident, and Benjamin Harry Timmins, 60, died at the scene.
Police aren't seeking anyone else over the incident.
In an update today, Manawatū Area Commander Inspector Ross Grantham said "we still have three people critically injured and fighting for their lives in hospital".
He said it was "an incredibly tragic situation".

"We are only in the very early stages of our inquiries in relation to this matter, with a scene examination still ongoing and a post-mortem on the deceased man yet to take place."
He said it was important to remember there was "a young girl who – while uninjured – is incredibly traumatised by what has occurred".
"No child should ever have to experience what this young girl did that night," he said.
Grantham said officers were yet to interview the three critically injured people, who are currently unable to speak to police due to their conditions.

"We know there is a significant level of public interest in this matter and we are committed to providing as much information as quickly as we can."
"However it’s also imperative that our investigation team is given the time and space they need to conduct a robust and thorough investigation, so that we can provide the families and loved ones of those involved with the answers they need and deserve."
Yesterday, Grantham revealed that police had been called to the property previously for a family-harm related incident on January 9.
He also confirmed that a dismantled firearm, firearms parts and ammunition was seized from the property in Waitārere Beach at 7.15pm on January 13, before the incident early on January 14.
