One critically injured in 'targeted' shooting on Auckland street

A major police presence has been reported in the vicinity of Arthur St, with the police Eagle helicopter circling overhead for a period before leaving.

One person has been critically injured after being shot in an Auckland suburb in what police are calling a "targeted incident".

Police received reports a person had been shot at a property on Arthur St in Onehunga shortly after 11am on Friday. A person located with a gunshot wound was taken to hospital, where they remained in a critical condition.

Detective Senior Sergeant Matt Bunce said police believed there was no ongoing risk to the public.

"We understand this sort of violence is very unsettling for the community and our investigation will focus on holding anyone involved to account,” he said. “At this stage we believe this was a targeted incident.

“If anyone has any information, or CCTV footage that may capture the area in and around Arthur Street we would like to hear from you.”

Parts of Arthur and Alfred streets cordoned off have since reopened and weren't expected to impact the nearby Ed Sheeran concert at Go Media Stadium tonight.

St John responded to the incident at around 11am with an ambulance, a rapid response unit, and an operations manager.

"Our ambulance team treated one patient in a critical condition and transported them to Auckland City Hospital."

A 1News reporter at the scene said police officers were going door to door to talk to those who lived nearby.

Anyone with relevant information should contact police on 105.
