A homicide investigation is underway into the death of a man in the Napier suburb of Marewa on Friday morning.
Emergency services were called to Savage Cres just before 11.10am after receiving reports a man had been assaulted.
On arrival, a man was found with critical injuries, Detective Inspector Marty James said.
"Despite the best efforts of first responders, he died at the scene a short time after."
James said a 26-year-old woman was taken into custody at the address, and would be appearing in the Hastings District Court on Saturday, charged with murder.

Savage Cres was cordoned off while police examined the scene and worked to establish the circumstances leading up to the alleged assault.
