NCEA: Results for 158,000 students available from today

NCEA results will be available from today ending weeks of waiting for 158,000 students.

Accessed through the New Zealand Qualifications Authority website, also known as NZQA, students will be able to see whether they have received course endorsements, certificate endorsements, or met the requirements for university entrance.

Students across New Zealand, the Cook Islands and Niue should use their national student number (NSN) or student login to access the results.

Utufa’asisili Rosemary Mose, NZQA's acting deputy chief executive, assessment, advised students who run into trouble getting onto the system to get in touch.

"Students who have misplaced these details can use Awhina, NZQA's online chatbot, or contact NZQA's contact centre on 0800 697 296," she said. "For privacy reasons, NZQA can only provide results and NSNs directly to the student."

From January 20, students will be able to view their marked NCEA papers online. If they believe an error has occurred, they will then be able to apply for a review or reconsideration until February 18.

Govt plan to abolish NCEA

Last month, the Government announced it had delayed making a final decision on the proposal to abolish NCEA and replace it with a new education qualification system.

Education Minister Erica Stanford said she would be undertaking further analysis of feedback given during the public consultation period.

Announced in August, the reforms to NCEA would move away from the current standards-based assessment model.

Students would instead follow structured, subject-based programmes designed to provide a more coherent and meaningful learning experience.

The timeframe for implementation laid out in the proposal was for the new Year 11 foundational award to begin in 2028, followed by the Year 12 certificate in 2029 and the Year 13 certificate in 2030.

Final proposals are now expected to go to Cabinet in February.
