A man has been charged after allegedly driving at more than four times the speed limit through a Southland community in a $160,000 sports car.
Police said it received multiple calls from members of the public on December 24, reporting a black sports car being driven at extreme speeds in Edendale.
Constable Julie Russell said it was alleged the driver returned to the area several times throughout the day, and in some instances took members of the public for rides in the vehicle.
"Thanks to information provided by the public, and through our initial enquiries, we identified the vehicle and its driver," Russell said.
The vehicle, a black 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, was alleged to have travelled at speeds exceeding four times the posted limit, while also performing burnouts in the area.

"Not only is this a ridiculously dangerous speed, but this reckless driving may have had the potential to cause serious harm to a number of people," Russell said.
Police executed a search warrant at a property on January 13, where the man was suspended from driving for 28 days and summonsed to court.
The Chevrolet Corvette, valued at around $160,000, was seized and impounded for 28 days.
Police thanked members of the public who reported the incident at the time, saying real-time information was crucial in completing their investigation.
Police were continuing to appeal for information and asked anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has relevant CCTV or dashcam footage, to contact police via 105.
The man is due to appear in Gore District Court on February 11, charged with sustained loss of traction and reckless driving.
