One person has been critically injured in a reported shooting in the Palmerston North suburb of Highbury this afternoon.
Officers were called to an address on Pioneer Highway at around 3.15pm on Monday.
"Cordons are in place around Pioneer Highway, between Cardiff St and Botanical Rd," a police spokesperson said.
"Members of the public are asked to avoid the area."
St John said an ambulance, a rapid response unit and one operations manager responded.

"One patient, in critical condition, has been transported."
A witness at the scene told 1News the incident was a shooting.
"The victim was a male and was shot two times," he said.
A woman who lived nearby said she believed the incident occurred in or near the Marriner St carpark.
