Four people are injured and part of SH1 is closed following a two-vehicle crash in Canterbury this evening.
Police said they were called to the collision on State Highway 1/Rakaia Highway, near Hatfield Overdale Rd, around 5.50pm.
Three people were seriously injured in the incident and a fourth person sustained moderate injuries.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
