One person has been seriously injured in a glue drum explosion at an wood product manufacturing site near Motueka this morning.
St John said it was notified of the incident on Little Sydney Rd just after 8am and responded with an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle.
"One patient has been assessed and is being transported to Nelson Hospital by road ambulance in a serious condition," a spokesperson said.
Fire and Emergency NZ said it responded with crews from Motueka and Tasman.
Crews provided advice and assisted police and ambulance staff, a spokesperson said.
WorkSafe said it had been notified of the incident and were making initial inquiries to determine the circumstances.
A spokesperson said information indicated the incident occurred at a wood product manufacturing business.
"WorkSafe currently has a focus on the wood product manufacturing subsector and are completing proactive assessments of these businesses across the country. These visits aim to help businesses understand their health and safety responsibilities and manage critical risks such as hazardous substances."
