Police want to speak to a group who may have used a pool at a property hours before the unexplained death of a person in Auckland's Devonport on New Year's Day.

Emergency services were called to the property on Kerr St around 11pm on January 1 to discover a person dead at the scene.

Detective Inspector Aaron Pascoe today said the cause of death "remains unexplained" and the police investigation was ongoing.

Pascoe said, earlier in New Year's Day, a group of people – including one adult and at least two children – may have visited the address and used the pool.

"We do not believe these people were present at the address at the time of the death, however we are asking that they come forward to enable police to confirm their movements and any observations they may have made."

Anyone with information has been asked to contact police on 105.
