A memorial to the three children who were found dead after a house fire in Sanson in November has been unveiled by their mother, who has thanked the community for its ongoing support in the wake of the tragedy.
August, 7, Hugo, 5, and Goldie, 1, died in what is being investigated as a suspected murder-suicide.
Dean Field, the children’s father, also died.
Yesterday, Chelsey Field unveiled the plaque at Viv’s Kitchen. It was installed in front of a colourful fence surrounding a fairy garden on Sanson’s Dundas Road.
“It means so much to me that Viv’s kitchen has chosen to create this memorial for my children,” Chelsey Field said in a statement.
She said the cafe “was local to us” and the kindness and generosity is “so appreciated”.
“I am so thankful to those who have dropped off ornaments or painted rocks to add. It’s so nice to have somewhere that myself, friends, family and the community can go and visit.
“It touches me that complete strangers would like to keep the memory of my children going and that does not go unnoticed.”
Field thanked those who have offered support over the last two months, including messages, cards and those who have donated.
“It was so heartwarming to unveil the plaque and it felt very special.”

In a post to Facebook, the cafe said the colours on the picket fence were the same colours Field had chosen for the children’s caskets.
“We hope this little memorial will help Chelsey to know, those little lives mattered and will always be remembered,” the post read.
The plaque lists the name of the three children, and Field’s stillborn daughter Iris, whose ashes were lost in the blaze.

It also includes the name of the family dog Marlo, who also died.
The cafe is owned by Vivienne Anne Withers with her husband, Kevan.
In the post, the cafe added the children’s lives will “always be remembered”.
“To all of you please remember, anyone is welcome to leave a fairy at the garden.”
