Searchers will be using radar to look for a tramper overdue from Kahurangi National Park in Tasman for nearly a week.
Graham Garnett, 66, went tramping in the Baton/Ellis River area and was expected to return on December 30 but failed to do so.
Parts of the Baton Valley will be closed on Tuesday while police search and rescue teams search for Garnett, Sergeant Jonny Evans said.
The areas include:
• Wilkinson Track
• Baton Saddle
• Loveridge Spur Route
• Cowin Spur Track
• Wharepapa Arthur Range – from Mount Star through to the twins
• Walking track to Flanagans Hut.
"We will be using a radar tomorrow so ask members of the public to steer clear of our search areas."
Garnett was described as being around 1.77m tall, approximately 100kg, and with grey hair.
"We are keen to hear from anyone who we haven't spoken with yet, who was in the Baton/Ellis River area from the afternoon of December 26, particularly anyone who was around Flanagans Hut," Evans said.
Anyone with information was asked to contact police on 105.
