Multiple injuries reported as crash closes south side of Brynderwyns

Police set up a road closure following a crash at the Brynderwyns this afternoon.

Multiple people are injured, some seriously, after a crash on the south side of State Highway 1 across the Brynderwyns this afternoon.

Police said the two-vehicle crash was reported around 12.45pm today.

"Initial indications are that multiple people are injured, some seriously," a police spokesperson said.

"Motorists should expect delays while emergency services work at the scene."

Southbound traffic was diverted through Waipu while northbound traffic was diverted down SH12 towards Dargaville.

St John said it had responded to the crash with two helicopters, two ambulances, one rapid response unit, and two operations managers.

It could not provide an update on patient numbers or conditions due to the incident still being "active", a spokesperson said.

A 1News reporter on the scene said southbound traffic was backed up more than 5km.

The serious crash unit had been notified.
