One person has died, and another has been seriously injured after two vehicles collided on State Highway 1 near Ohau Point this morning.
Police were notified of the crash at 9.38am on Wednesday.
St John sent an ambulance, helicopter, a PRIME vehicle, and a first response vehicle to the scene.
One patient in serious condition was airlifted to Christchurch Hospital.
NZTA said a section of the highway was under stop/go management following the crash.
"Please plan ahead and factor in significant delays. We know today is likely to be a busy time on the road and we appreciate people’s patience," an NZTA spokesperson said.
