A person has died following an overnight house fire in New Plymouth.

Emergency services were called to a property on Trelawney Cres in Westown around 2.30am following reports of a house fire.

Fire and Emergency NZ responded to the scene with three fire appliances from New Plymouth and New Plymouth West.

One person was found dead at the property.

A scene examination was underway, and police said it would work with Fire and Emergeny to determine the cause of the fire.

A person was injured following a house fire in Christchurch just before 5am this morning.
