Five injured, two seriously, in Waikato crash involving truck

Five people have been injured, two seriously, in a two-vehicle crash involving a truck in Waikato this morning.

Emergency services were called to State Highway 25, just west of the Kopu Bridge, at around 11.50am on Wednesday.

St John said three ambulances, one helicopter and one rapid response vehicle responded to the scene.

"Five patients have been assessed, with all five being transported to hospital, one to Waikato Hospital by ambulance in a serious condition, one to Middlemore Hospital by helicopter in a serious condition, and one to Thames Hospital in a moderate condition," a St John spokesperson said.

"Two other patients were transported to Thames Hospital by ambulance, one in a moderate condition and one in a minor condition."

Police said the road was closed near the intersection with Hauraki Rd.

"Motorists are advised to avoid the area, diversions are in place," a police spokesperson said.
