A body has been found in the search for a man who went missing in the water near Thames earlier this week.
Police were called at around 9.45am Monday after receiving reports that two people were in difficulty in the water at the Waikawau boat ramp off Thames Coast Rd.
One person had made it safely to shore, but search efforts remained ongoing for the second person.
Duty Inspector Neil Faulkner said police received reports of a body located on a beach near Thames Coast Rd at around 6.10am this morning.
"A formal identification is yet to take place, but police believe it is the man who was reported missing on December 22, near the Waikawau boat ramp," Faulkner said.
The death was expected to be referred to the coroner.
