Four arrested, firearms seized in Gisborne homicide probe

Four people have been arrested and firearms seized as part of an ongoing homicide investigation in Gisborne.

Bill Maangi, 36, was found critically injured on the front lawn of a property between Lytton Rd and Riperata St at around 4am on September 29 after he was shot. He died in hospital shortly afterwards.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant John Love said search warrants were carried out at multiple Gisborne addresses on earlier this month, including a section of the Taruheru River being searched by the police dive squad.

Four people aged between 25 and 37 were arrested.

Police said those arrested are expected to appear in Gisborne District Court in January and were facing charges of aggravated robbery, and firearm and drug related matters.

Several items were recovered during the searches including firearms, which have been sent for forensic analysis.

"Nobody deserves this, and the investigation team remains committed to getting justice for Mr Maangi and his family," Love said.

Further charges were not ruled out as police continued their inquiries.
